Many people have now made the leap to work from home. While working from home does have many benefits, one challenge some are finding is trying to hit the right work and home-life balance.
The biggest way to combat this is by having a separate workspace at your property that you can walk away from at the end of the day and leave work-related problems and stresses at the door. With this in mind, we have seen a rise in the number of people wanting to use garden buildings as garden office rooms.
If you are looking to invest in a garden office but are unsure of which style of building you would require, we are here to help you with choosing the best garden building for home working.
Space-Saving Garden Office Buildings
If you are looking for an outdoor office that does not impose too much on your garden, our Classic Office may be a good building to consider. It is a modern, fully insulated outdoor office that measures 2.4 x 3.0m. It has been specifically designed to allow one or two people to comfortably work inside, so you can tailor the layout of the building to best suit you.
You could opt for corner desks to fit two people inside, whereas a person on their own could easily install a desk and a filing cabinet. If your job involves hosting clients, you could configure the space so you can work on a desk to one side of the room and your client can sit on a chair on the other side.
Require something smaller? You may like one of our 1.8 x 2.4m Salthouse Studios. Some of our customers have opted for this size and transformed them into cosy, but fully functioning outdoor offices.
Modern Garden Office Buildings
Buildings such as our Salthouse and Holt Studios are a great choice for those seeking a contemporary office building. They both have a sleek pent roof design and feature plenty of glazing, with the Holt Studio having two walls of glazing, and our Salthouse Studio having a fully glazed front elevation made using floor-to-ceiling glass panels.
The glazing on these two buildings floods the inside with plenty of natural light, which can aid professions such as artists and photographers with their jobs. Both buildings offer unhindered views of your garden, giving you something nice to look at while working.
If you like a building with plenty of glazing but prefer the look of an apex roof, our Burnham Studio offers a fully glazed elevation but with a classic pitched roof, perfectly blending both modern and traditional design elements.
Traditional Garden Office Buildings
We also have buildings with a more traditional office look, like our Langham Studio. This building has an apex roof with desk height windows included as part of its design, making it a great choice of those who are going to be spending a lot of time sat down and typing on a laptop.
Another choice with an apex roof that you may want to consider is our Pavilion Garden Room. It comes fully lined, insulated, and double glazed as standard, and an electric pack with heater is also fitted, ensuring you have all the working from home essentials included in the price.
A bonus of this design is that it comes with a sheltered veranda to the front of the building, meaning you could take work outside on warmer weather days and enjoy getting some fresh air during a well-deserved coffee break.
If you prefer the look of a hipped roof, you may like our signature Garden Room, which has the same included features as our Pavilion, but without the veranda.
Our Cley Summerhouse is similar in style to our Garden Room with a hipped roof but it is part of our Summerhouse range: it is a wonderful option if you are looking for a smaller space in a quaint country garden.
Garden Office Buildings with Partitions
If your job requires you to host meetings, have customers visit, or if you have multiple people needing to use the office, you may find a garden building with a partition useful. You can use internal partitions to create meeting rooms for more space or, if you are a beautician or a therapist, you can have treatment rooms installed for extra privacy. You could also use partitions to create kitchenette and bathroom facilities for you and your clients to use, just like one of our customers who transformed their Burnham Studio into a garden hair salon.
Garden Buildings with partitions also allow you to have your building used for multiple purposes. You could have an external partition to create a garden office with storage, or you could have a partition down the middle of your building to create a workspace plus a separate area to transform into a living room, a craft space, or even a gym!
Garden Buildings Turned Workshops
A workshop may not be a traditional garden office, but they are ideal for more practical jobs. For those with crafty jobs such as woodworkers or ceramicists, our workshops are the ideal place to spend a day working on your trade. You will have plenty of room inside for all your equipment and we can also install workbenches made from oak-faced ply inside to give you somewhere solid and sturdy to work.
If you need to have particularly heavy equipment such as a Kiln inside your building, you can opt for heavy-duty flooring to support the weight, just like one of our customers did when they turned their Superior Shed into a pottery workshop.
Even workers like handymen and painters and decorators, that need to leave home to provide their services, will benefit from having a workshop. It will give them somewhere easy to access supplies, rather than storing things overnight in their vans or at a rented storage facility.
One of the big benefits of having your very own garden office is that you can customise it to how you like. You can choose all the interior and exterior design options, from the paint systems and cladding choices to the roof coverings and window types, in order to create a customisable garden office that is tailor-made to you.
As most professions will require you to use your office all year round, you will want to think about making sure that it has all the essentials for working from homes, such as insulation, double glazing, electrics, and heating to make it comfortable inside whatever the weather. Some of our garden building ranges have these features as standard, but on others, you can choose to add them to your building as extra to make sure you have a year-round use garden office.
