The RHS Cube Urban Garden Lifestyle Render - Birch Stone The RHS Cube Rural Garden Lifestyle Render RHS Cube 3 x 4 Birch Stone Close Up RHS Cube 3 x 4 Nordic Ash Close Up The RHS Cube Rural Garden Lifestyle Render Nordic Ash

Crane Garden Buildings and the Royal Horticultural Society (RHS) have created a contemporary garden studio that is inspired by modern design and the RHS Hilltop – The Home of Gardening Science at Wisley, the UK’s first dedicated horticultural scientific centre of excellence, open to the public – protecting the future of plants, people and the planet at the iconic RHS Garden Wisley.

The RHS Cube combines sleek style with over 50 years of craftsmanship, offering a fully insulated, year-round space for work or relaxation—an elegant extension of your home and lifestyle.

Design your RHS Cube

At Crane, we’re passionate about bringing your vision to life with a garden building that perfectly suits your needs—whether it’s a cosy hobby room, a serene garden retreat, a productive home office, a creative craft space, or an inviting entertainment area.

Building Design

The RHS Cube is available in multiple standard sizes, but you can make your garden studio bigger with the option to add either a 0.25m or a 1.25m veranda to the front. This results in the sizes ranging from:

2.5 x 2.5m - 4.5 x 7.0m

You can choose whether you would like a left-hand or right-hand sliding pocket door design to best suit your garden.

Please note that the sizes provided are the overall footprint of the building.

Veranda Options

The size of your RHS Cube’s veranda depends on the building size you choose, with either a 0.25m or 1.25m veranda included at the front. Whether you have limited space for a few decorative potted plants or a larger area to accommodate a bistro dining set, your veranda enhances both the style and functionality of your RHS Cube—creating the perfect spot for relaxation.

Roofing Options

Our RHS Cube comes with a choice of roof covering. Heavy duty felt is the standard option, and you have the choice of upgrading to EPDM rubber roofing.

Lining & Insulation

The RHS Cube comes fully lined and insulated (walls, ceiling and floor) as standard. This allows you to use your new building all through the year, it also increases comfort and decreases noise levels, as well as finishing the building in a beautiful manner.

Insulation

For the roof we have a 4 tier lining and insulation process; we insulate between the ply layer and the internal matchboard tongue and groove lining, and finish the building with our heavy duty felt or EDPM on the roof. For the walls, we insulate your building by trapping a breathable paper membrane between the studwork, which acts as a moisture trap before filling in with insulation.

There are then 2 options for lining your RHS Cube: natural matchboarding (as standard), or painted matchboarding. To have the walls (and ceiling) painted, you can choose our own Ivory internal paint colour, or choose from a range of Farrow & Ball paint colours.

Natural Matchboard Lining

We can line with our highest grade tongue and groove matchboarding (15mm) offering a natural, warm feel.

Painted Matchboard Lining

We use a channelled, secret-nailed, tongue and groove matchboarding (15mm) with 3 coats of Ivory or Farrow & Ball paint, which achieves a bright, clean and airy look.

Year-round Use

The insulation in the walls, floor and ceiling, along with the matchboard lining and double glazing will allow you to use your building in comfort all through the year.

Interior Colours

Inside the RHS Cube you will have natural matchboard lining included as standard, but you can upgrade to painted in either our interior Ivory or in a choice of 8 Farrow & Ball colours.

The Farrow & Ball colours have all been specially chosen to contrast pleasingly with our external paint colours, and will allow you the flexibility to choose a neutral colour, or a shade with a bit more colour to it to really bring the inside of your studio alive.

These colours become particularly special when they are paired with one of our four engineered flooring types.

Pointing | Slipper Satin

Ammonite | Elephant's Breath

Shadow White | Old White

Purbeck Stone | Manor House Gray

Flooring Options

When choosing the internal options for your new RHS Cube studio, you have the following flooring options:

Standard Floorboards

The RHS Cube comes with natural unlacquered floorboards as standard.

Lacquered Floor

Having a lacquered floor is an additional option that can be chosen with our Studios. The lacquer is applied to the floorboards in either Natural or Light Oak to help protect the timber, as well as giving it a nice sheen.

Engineered Flooring

This option can be chosen as an alternative to a lacquered floor. There are four different colours to choose from, and the engineered flooring offers a chance to further personalise your new garden building, whether you’re aiming for a traditional, rustic or contemporary style.

Our engineered floorboards sit on top of the existing floorboards, with a layer of underlay in between the two, providing further insulating and sound absorbing benefits.

Electric Pack

For lighting and using any equipment in your building, you may wish to consider our electric pack extra to enable you to use your RHS Cube all year-round.

Professionally fitted by qualified electricians who take all the wiring to a consumer unit ready for you to connect to your electricity supply. Internal wiring will be fitted behind the internal lining. We can also supply your building with a heater.

4 double 13 amp switched sockets

A gang light switch

A waterproof double external 13 amp socket

An 8 way consumer unit: the main switch takes 2 slots - 63 amp MCB - 16 amp and 6 amp blanks

LED Spotlights are inserted into the ceiling of the Cube.

A Thermostatic 2kva wall heater with a digital display (this is optional)

Guttering

Guttering collects the water run-off from the roof and then deposits the water away from the building. This stops the bottom boards rotting prematurely, adding an even longer life to your building. Guttering is available in black or white.

We add the guttering and downpipe along the lowest side/eave of the roof. The addition of guttering also allows you to install a water butt.

Base Options

All our buildings require a level, solid base of the correct size.

The single most important part of installing a garden building is the base. Bases must be:

  • Level within a 6mm tolerance to ensure the longevity of your building
  • Of the correct size (please follow the base plan we send you)
  • Square i.e. have right angled corners

A solid base supports your building in the best possible way, adding longevity, as well as creating a substantial distance between your building and surface water.

We can supply a 100mm deep reinforced concrete base or a steel base ready for your building, laid by our professionals, in advance of your building being installed by us. The site must be clear and level within 100mm for us to do this.

The base should always be a minimum of 50mm out of the ground to prevent surface water or puddles affecting your building i.e. rotting it.

The base you have must be made to the plans we give you when you order your building, whether we install the base, or you get a trusted builder to do it for you.

Please note: If you intend to fully or partially surround the building base with hard paving we strongly suggest the installation of a French drain between the paving and base to prevent rain bouncing off the hard surface and driving up under the building, which in turn could cause damp and rot. A French drain is a simple small trench, dug around your building and filled with aggregate that will allow surface water to drain away.

Always get your garden building base laid by a professional, whether that is us, or a local builder you trust.
