2021 has been a busy year for us, with a new building added to our range and exciting additions made to existing buildings. We have continued to navigate around Covid restrictions and adapted to new ways of working so that we can continue to deliver and install our buildings up and down the country for our customers, all of which has required a big team effort from everyone at Crane.
Despite the challenges that the pandemic has brought, we have installed some lovely buildings in even lovelier gardens this year. It was hard to whittle down our favourites, but after much deliberation at Crane HQ, here is our list of 2021’s top 10 garden building installations.
Thornham Summerhouse
We introduced a new building to our range back in February of this year, the Thornham! This new summerhouse is different to the other buildings in our summerhouse collection as it has a contemporary-style pent roof with an overhang, blended with traditional design features, including ¾ glazed doors.
This Thornham Summerhouse was the first one we installed. It measures 2.4 x 3.6m and is painted in Sage from our Exterior Paint System.
Holt Studio
Next on our list is this 3.0 x 5.4m Holt Studio painted in Taupe & Twine, which includes a 2.4m veranda.
We added a new configuration option for our Holt Studio this year, offering the option of extending the side veranda to up to 3.0m! This way you have a fully lined and insulated interior space to enjoy and a sheltered veranda outside, giving you the best of both worlds. The veranda space could be used as an alfresco lounge and dining area, or you could even use it to house a hot tub!
Scale Aircraft modelling room
At number 3 is this Superior Shed turned aircraft scale modelling room. These photos were sent to us by one of our lovely customers and we knew as soon as we saw them that it would be one of our favourite buildings of the year.
It has always been our customer’s dream to have a dedicated hobby room so they chose a 1.8 x 2.4m Superior Shed to give them space to work on putting together and painting scale aircraft models. The Superior Shed is fully lined and insulated for year-round comfort and electrics were installed too. Our customer also opted to have two of our oak faced plywood workbenches fitted in an L-shape, giving them plenty of room to work inside their aircraft scale modelling hobby room.
Garden Office
This Holt Studio turned garden office also had to make our top 10 installations of the year. It was installed in the garden of the show home at Bellway Homes’ Heatherly Wood development, offering inspiration for what can be achieved with an outdoor office space.
The contemporary garden office design of the Holt reflects the modern design of the homes Bellway has to offer. It has a stylish pent roof and two walls of glazing, which allow plenty of natural light inside. The interior is insulated and fully lined with painted matchboard lining, ensuring year-round comfort while working inside.
Rustic Superior Shed
Next on our top 10 garden building installations list is this rustic-looking Superior Shed. It has cedar shingles on the roof, Georgian windows, and weatherboard cladding.
We have included this garden shed on our list as we love the two-tone painted finish. It is mainly painted in Exterior Black, with the doors and windows highlighted beautifully in Ivory. We also like the contrast of manly looking shed sat next to the dainty, pink rose bush.
Holkham Summerhouse
We could not compile this list without featuring this Holkham Summerhouse installed in front of the pond in our customer’s beautiful garden. We love how the Sandstone painted Exterior standouts amongst the greenery while also blending in with the surrounding shingle and the stone wall behind it.
Other features selected by our customer for their 2.4 x 4.2m Holkham Summerhouse include cedar shingles on the roof, Georgian windows and smooth shiplap cladding.
Garden Room
We just had to include a signature garden room on our top 10 list, and this one at number 7 is certainly a beautiful one!
This 3.6 x 6.0m Garden Room is in a prime position in our customer’s freshly landscaped garden. It is painted in a two-tone fashion using Farrow & Ball’s paint system. The main colour is Light Gray, with the doors, window frames, and cornerboards highlighted in Pointing. Other features of this beautiful garden room include cedar shingles on the roof, leaded windows, and rustic-style weatherboard cladding.
Jewellery Craft Room
This Salthouse Studio turned jewellery craft room is at position 8 on our list. We love how our customer has transformed it into a space where they can spend hours working on their passion project to their heart’s content.
Our customer wanted a building that let a lot of natural light inside, which is why the Salthouse appealed to them, with its fully glazed front elevation. The interior is fully insulated and lined with natural matchboard. Our customer also opted to have our electric pack installed, adding spotlights in the ceiling for more light and four double switched sockets so they can plug in any equipment needed.
Superior Potting Shed
Next on our list is this Superior Shed sat amongst a pretty garden as it transitioned from winter to spring. We love the exterior options our customer has chosen for this garden shed, which is why we made it the winner of our quarterly customer photo competition back in June.
Measuring 1.8 x 3.0m, it has terracotta slate effect tiles on the roof and rustic-cut weatherboard cladding painted in Verdigris from our Exterior Paint System. Our customer also opted to have our security pack installed for peace of mind, with its stainless-steel window bars, security screws in the door hinges, and a steel-encased 7 lever lock.
Cley Summerhouse
The last one on our list is this Cley Summerhouse. It was installed back in October, but when we saw these photos land in our inbox, we just knew it had to make the top 10. Just look at how lovely it looks sat in our customer’s garden!
It has a timeless elegance to its design, with its hipped roof covered in grey slate effect tiles, Georgian windows, and rustic-style weatherboard cladding. The colours chosen to paint the exterior are Farrow & Ball Old White & Pointing, they complement our customer’s choice of paving stones beautifully. We also had to include an interior photo as we love how our customer has styled the interior, showcasing a painted ceiling and walls in internal Ivory.
