Summerhouses with an attached storage shed offer a charming and practical solution for outdoor living and storage needs during the warmer months. Combining the cosy atmosphere of a summerhouse with the functionality of a storage shed, these structures offer a versatile space for relaxation, entertainment, and organisation.

Should you want a year-round solution that is entirely weatherproof, you could opt for an insulated and lined summerhouse with side shed, which will maintain a comfortable temperature and meet all of your needs.

What is a summerhouse with storage shed?

A summerhouse with storage shed is a structure that incorporates both a recreational relaxation summerhouse space with a practical storage area that does the same job as a separate garden shed. These structures are usually crafted from timber, and can be bespoke-built in such a way that you can’t tell there are two separate areas. Usually, this is done by incorporating a partition wall within the building to separate the two areas, adding an access door either internally or externally.

Why have a summerhouse with a side shed?

The most obvious reason for having a summerhouse with a side shed is that you will be investing in a building that can serve a dual purpose and therefore save on space while maximising functionality. Summerhouses with side storage also make efficient use of limited outdoor space by consolidating two structures into one. This is particularly beneficial for smaller yards or gardens where space is at a premium.

A summerhouse with shed attached is the most convenient way to combine both necessary storage with idyllic recreation.

The benefits of a summerhouse with a shed

Enhanced outdoor living

A summerhouse with an attached storage shed creates a focal point in your outdoor space, encouraging you to spend more time enjoying the beauty of your garden. Whether you're hosting outdoor gatherings, relaxing with a book, or simply soaking up the sunshine, these structures enhance your overall outdoor living experience.

Bespoke options

Our summerhouses can be customised to suit your specific needs and preferences. You can choose from a variety of sizes, styles, and features to create a space that reflects your personal taste and complements your outdoor environment.

Increased property value

Adding a summerhouse with side storage can enhance the value of your property. Potential buyers may see the versatility and functionality of such a structure as a desirable feature, particularly if they enjoy outdoor living and entertaining.

Our summerhouse features & considerations

Bespoke design

The Crane design process allows you to customise everything to create a bespoke building that meets your needs. With summerhouses that also have storage sheds attached, you might wish to have some creative control over things like where you access the storage area, how many windows the summerhouse part has and what colour scheme your interior is painted in. You can do all of this and more with the help of our experienced, friendly and knowledgeable product team.

Your choice of extras

Once you’ve designed the structure and layout of your summerhouse, you can then choose from a menu of extras which will further enhance the building. In the summerhouse section, why not opt for complete insulation and lining along with a two-tone Farrow & Ball paint finish? In the storage section, our experienced fitting team can add things like workbenches for easy organisation.

Unrivalled materials

With more than 50 years of experience in making beautiful timber buildings by hand, Crane only uses the most superior materials. Our FSC© certified Scandinavian Redwood is sustainably sourced from timber mills in northern Sweden, where it is grown slowly to ensure a superior composition with fewer knots and warping.

Why Choose Crane

Established in 1974 by David Crane, Crane Garden Buildings are proud to still be, at their heart, a Norfolk-based, family-run business, and a highly rated producer of high quality timber garden buildings.

FAQs

We offer a unique experience where you have the option to customise every aspect of your dream garden summerhouse with a side shed so that it is exactly what you want. We firmly believe that we are able to produce summerhouses that are of superior quality in the market as we have over 50 years of experience allowing us to perfect the way we build as well as using only the highest quality materials like our FSC® certified timber and tried and tested paint systems. Quality goes into everything we do, which is also why we offer a 10-year guarantee on all garden buildings in our core range.

The main material used to make all models of our summerhouses is timber. There are many reasons why timber is a superior building material for summerhouses such as its versatility in its finish i.e. it can be stained to show the natural beauty of the wood itself or painted, and it also acts as a natural thermal insulator. At Crane, we only use the highest quality FSC-certified Scandinavian Redwood timber for our garden summerhouses. Find out more about where we get our timber from.

The majority of our garden summerhouses have been designed to not need planning permission due to being below the maximum height of 2.5m and can be installed under permitted development. However this does depend on the position you want your summerhouse with shed to go and any additional rules stipulated in the area you live in, like a national park for example.

Yes, a summerhouse can be used all year round. If you would like to use it all year round we would highly recommend choosing an insulated summerhouse, while you can leave the shed storage part uninsulated and unlined for a more budget-friendly price too. Each of our summerhouses can come unlined or lined and insulated, which you can play around with in our online building configurator.

The additional insulation will help to regulate the internal temperature throughout the year and make it much more efficient to heat should you decide to include an internal heater.

You can furnish your bespoke garden summerhouse with side shed however you like, and this will largely depend on what you’re planning on using both areas for. The summerhouse part of the building could be used for anything from a hobby room to a home gym, while the shed part will most likely be used for storage, in which case you might wish to invest in sturdy shelving units or add your own wall racking. Don’t forget you can also visit one of our 14 national show centres, find your nearest show centre for inspiration where you will see a range of dressed buildings on display.

Yes you can. Use our online building configurator to explore the options available to you and create the bespoke summerhouse with a storage shed you’ve always wanted.

Maintenance is minimal. It’s recommended that the roof is kept clean from any build-up of leaves, debris, and moss, especially over the winter months. The same applies to the windows, they should be cleaned regularly to prevent any decaying debris eating away at the paint and woodwork. Always check for any damage to the roof or cladding which could potentially let damp in. It’s also good practice to open the windows every now and then to ensure there is sufficient ventilation inside which will also help to prevent any mould from developing.

We provide a 10-year guarantee with most of our buildings. We also have a dedicated customer service team who will help you throughout the order process, and will be on-hand to help with any questions post-installation as well. Find out more about our 10-year guarantee.

Yes. We have an optional electric pack available on all bespoke summerhouses that are lined & insulated. It’s important that if you would like to have electricity in your premium summer house that you also choose to have it lined & insulated as this will help to protect the power supply from damage caused by damp and mould, preventing a potential fire hazard.

Our electric pack extra includes 4 double sockets, 1 external double socket, 1 8-way consumer unit, spotlights, and the chance to add in exterior spotlights as well as a wall heater and/or air conditioning unit.

Yes. It is vital for the longevity of your bespoke summerhouse with shed to be situated on a flat, level base. This will keep it stable, in the correct alignment, and protect it from the damp and wet ground underneath. Typically we recommend a concrete base and we offer this as an additional service if you require it. Concrete provides a strong base that will last, the alternatives are a timber base or ground screws.

Lead times can vary throughout the year, please get in touch with our sales designers to find out more about current lead times and open delivery slots.
