Your home is where you spend most of your time, so it’s essential to have a space reserved for enjoying your downtime and pursuing any hobbies.

Garden games rooms are an innovative solution to meet the dual needs of relaxation and recreation. Whether you're an avid video gamer, a board game enthusiast or you’re simply seeking a dedicated area for entertainment, an outdoor game room provides a versatile, distraction-free space for you to enjoy both solo and when hosting.

Garden games rooms come in many different forms, but for a quick, effortless and attractive solution that usually won’t need planning permission, many people are opting for wooden garden rooms.

What is a garden games room?

A garden games room is a dedicated space within your garden, designed specifically for you to enjoy however you wish. These rooms may be equipped with home cinema screens, pool tables and other recreational accoutrements for you to use. A huge perk of a garden games room is that you essentially extend your living space, providing a unique area where you can relax, entertain, and enjoy hobbies while being just a stone's throw away from your main home.

Why have a garden games room?

If spending time with your friends and family is something you value, a garden games room can become the epicentre of your social activity. Having this additional space means you can invest in things like a snooker table, darts board, or anything else that’s generally too big or uses up too much space inside your home. A large TV is also a must for your games room, you can use it to play games consoles and watch sports if you’ve got some football fanatics living under your roof. A garden games room can also be fantastic if you have older children. Instead of having their friends inside your house at the weekend encroaching on your personal space, it provides the perfect retreat for them to have fun and not disturb your plans for a relaxed weekend.

The benefits of a garden games room

Entertainment and fun

An outdoor games room is an exciting addition of endless possibilities. This unique space, nestled within the confines of your garden, can be completely tailored to you and your hobbies. Whether you’re the reigning champion of table tennis, you like to invite your friends around for a weekly board games night or simply want a hideaway where you can enjoy watching sporting events, you’ll never need to go elsewhere again.

Versatility

While its name suggests a singular purpose, the garden games room is anything but. Suited to an array of games – from arcade classics to modern board games – it ensures everyone has something to look forward to. It can also be easily transformed into something else should you need it in the future.

Stress relief

In today's fast-paced world, moments of relaxation are hard to come by, especially in your home where distractions are a constant. The garden games room offers a haven for those seeking to unwind, letting the simple pleasures of a game provide much-needed stress relief.

Indoor recreation

Don’t let your plans get disrupted by the unpredictable weather! Bring games night inside with a year-round, all-season outdoor game room. Having an indoor space that retains a strong connection to the outdoors with things like covered verandas and full-length windows will also make you feel closer to nature.

Personal retreat

Beyond games and gatherings, the room offers a quiet corner for those in search of solitude. Be it reading, listening to music or simply soaking in the ambience, your garden games room can also serve as a private sanctuary for your precious downtime.

Added property value

An investment in a garden games room goes beyond immediate benefits to your lifestyle. Such an addition can enhance your property's value in some cases by up to 15%, as like an extension, it provides additional living space. This will be an attractive prospect for potential buyers!

Our games room features & considerations

Your games set up

Depending on what game or hobby you’ll be practising in the space, you may need a bespoke solution to suit. Each of our garden games rooms can be tailored to the needs of our customers, with larger sizes available for things like pool tables, or storage partitions to ensure the safe and organised storage of specialist equipment.

Size

Once you know where you’re going to put your garden games room, and what you’ll need to put inside, you should have a good idea as to what size building you’re looking for. Choose from a range of different sizes where both the space you have available in your garden and the footprint you need for your game or activity of choice are taken into account.

Lining & Insulation

You’ll want to ensure that your games room can be used all year round, which is why our entire collection has the option to come lined and insulated either as standard or as an optional extra. This additional insulation means you will be able to efficiently heat the building in colder months and it won’t get too hot in the summer.

Power Supply

Our range of beautiful garden games rooms can be equipped with power so that you can enjoy the conveniences of light and heat, along with power for your games essentials. Our electrical pack is installed into the building, and will just need connecting to your mains supply by an electrician upon completion.

FAQs

The ideal size depends on the types of games and activities you wish to accommodate. Generally, a size of 3m x 3m is a good starting point, but larger spaces offer more versatility for multiple games and furniture. For example, the standard-size pool table is 8ft x 4ft (approx 2.4 x 1.2m), and you’ll need enough space around the table for movement, along with an area for seating and storage if required.

Absolutely. We can both insulate and line your garden games room, giving you a versatile, attractive space that remains comfortable in any climate.

Yes, our team is adept at tailoring garden buildings to fit your specific needs, ensuring the interior layout complements your intended use. We can also tailor your building with a range of aesthetic options such as paint colour, flooring style and fixture finish.

In most cases, planning permission is not required for garden rooms, as they fall under ‘permitted development’. However, there may be certain size and location conditions to meet. We recommend you check with your local planning authority for specific details. In the meantime, take a look at our guide to planning permission.

We provide a 10-year guarantee with most of our buildings. We also have a dedicated customer service team who will help you throughout the order process, and will be on-hand to help with any questions post-installation as well. Find out more about our 10-year guarantee.

Depending on your design choice, customisable options include size, roofing material, external cladding, door and window placement, window styles and internal and external paint colours.

We can provide an electrical pack, so we can set everything up in the building to run off electricity, you will just need to arrange the final connection to the house yourself.

If you intend to place heavy equipment, such as a pool table or vintage arcade game, inside your garden games room, we would recommend you choose our heavy-duty flooring. While our standard floorboards are ex19mm thick, our heavy-duty boards are ex38mm thick, and will offer a sturdy, durable platform.
