On Saturday, July 30, we were delighted to join the team at Swaffham Men’s Shed for an open day to unveil their now completed Superior Shed, that we donated to the charity in November 2021. With 576 Men’s Sheds now located across the UK, the charity aims to provide community spaces for men to connect, converse and create, in the aid of reducing social isolation.
One in eight men in the UK experience a mental health condition alongside being three times more likely to commit suicide than women. It is statistics like these that make us so passionate about supporting projects such as the Men’s shed association, giving men a much needed support system in times of struggle. The charity offers support to a whole range of individuals, with an emphasis on the fact that members can take what they want from the facilities, whether that be talking about their struggles or starting a new hobby.
The build of the Superior Shed that we donated to the charity was completed by the members of Swaffham Men’s Shed themselves, with support and guidance given by Company Partner, Nick Crane and Production and Process Engineer, Robert Kascak.
Since we donated the Superior Shed, the members over at Swaffham have added a range of additional features to the building including a kitchen area, modelling station and social space. The unveiling on Saturday was also an opportunity for prospective members to have a look around the facilities and sign up to join the community at the Men’s shed.
You can find more information about the mission of the Men’s Shed online, alongside locating the nearest Men’s shed to you where you can access support. We look forward to seeing the difference that Swaffham's newest shed makes to the local community and are proud to support such a great cause.
