A garden retreat can be a wonderful thing, a luxury that becomes the focal point of your outside space. It takes a lot of time to decide how your summerhouse will look on the outside, picking out colours, a roofing material, windows, and doors, but now it’s time to decorate the inside!
What are you using your garden retreat for? A relaxation spot to admire your garden from? A dining area? An entertainment spot? Or maybe a combination of all three? Our ranges of Garden Sheds, Summerhouses, Studios and Garden Rooms are all perfect for all of these, and can be used all year round.
Colours
White is a great indoor colour, whether it’s just on the walls, or on the whole of the inside. It gives a light and airy feel, making your space feel even bigger. With our insulated buildings, we clad the internal walls with tongue and groove match boarding. This comes in two colour options: painted and natural. The painted lining is in Ivory from our exterior paint system, and the lining is the natural colour of the timber.
This matchboard lining is ideal if you would like to achieve a warmer, more organic feel to your building, but who says you can’t paint the inside in a completely different colour to suit your own style and vision?
Nautical: If you want a laid back feel in your retreat, why not give nautical a go? This can be achieved with a few blue and white striped cushions, maybe a ship in a bottle, and some pieces of coral and seashells for a bit of decoration. This theme lends itself well to both the ivory and natural matchboard finish.
Country Traditional: This makes a great theme for a dining set-up, with the use of a traditional wooden table and chairs, a country style unit that has a rustic charm to it, and some nice flowers. Perfect to relax in and enjoy warm summer evenings and the occasional family BBQ. Our Garden Rooms really lend themselves to this style, especially once you’ve added some soft, squishy sofas to relax in too.
Shabby Chic: With a painted white interior you can work this look to great effect. Add some reclaimed garden furniture, some frilly lace curtains, and splash out on some floral cushions. This is perfect for smaller, cosy summerhouses that you want to make as an extension of your garden. Open the doors wide, and let the summer air fill your lungs. Reclaiming and giving new life to old furniture could be a great hobby and would make your shabby chic retreat entirely unique.
Modern Brights: Using minimalistic (but always comfy) furniture, clean bright lines and bold prints, its easy to create a stylish modern space. A quick trip around your local IKEA will provide you with all the inspiration you could possibly need, whatever you've decided to use your garden building for. If you’ve already chosen muted colours for your larger pieces of furniture, adding a few splashes of colour with scatter cushions, ornaments and artwork can really brighten up your retreat. Our Garden Studios have a bright and airy structure, which works brilliantly for a modern theme.
Sports Bar: This is a popular theme for 'man cave' garden buildings, walls painted in the colour of your favourite team, floor to ceiling sports memorabilia and maybe even some personal trophies if you're an athlete yourself! Of course no sports bar themed garden building would be complete without a wide screen TV and mini fridge, both essential for every big game.
A few small alterations can really make your garden retreat come to life: draping fairy lights around the room can transform the atmosphere, curtains or blinds make a room really feel like home and wall hangings and colour schemes will really stamp your personality onto the interior. You may want to think about some of our optional extras such as electrical packs, heating and security packs if you're planning on enjoying it in real luxury, comfort and style.
