Summerhouses have long been a traditional English garden staple enjoyed in the warmth of the summer sun. But why limit your enjoyment to only a few months of the year? Don’t let the name fool you, insulated summerhouses are the perfect year round solution. From traditional to modern, there is a style to suit every home and every need, whether that’s a place to retreat to after a long day at work or somewhere to get stuck into your next model rail project. Your insulated summerhouse will be there for you to comfortably enjoy come blazing sun or chilly winter storm.

What is an insulated summerhouse?

An insulated summer house is a standalone structure in your garden that has a variety of uses. Considered to be a level up from your traditional garden shed, an insulated summer house will have plenty of windows to let the natural light in as well as additional material in the walls, ceiling, and floor to reduce heat transfer making it more usable in the summer and winter months.

Why have an insulated summerhouse?

Are you looking for additional multi-purpose living space without the costs and complexities of having an extension? An insulated garden summerhouse could be the perfect solution for you. We offer a range of summerhouses in varying styles and sizes, the majority of which are designed to avoid planning permission and pass under permitted development. Our insulated summerhouses are perfect for a wide range of uses from relaxing garden retreat to simple storage space or even a gym or hobby room.

The benefits of an insulated summerhouse

Your luxury garden retreat

Getting quality time to yourself in the house can be difficult when you’re surrounded by reminders of never ending chores or the hustle and bustle of a family home. Whether your garden retreat is a zen place for you to wind down or a quiet place to focus on your hobby, an insulated summerhouse will provide the perfect space for you to escape to. We have many building styles available from modern to more traditional, meaning you are able to match it with the exterior of your home. The interior also has customisable options such as adding partitions and choosing your own internal wall and ceiling paint colour, so that your summerhouse is tailored to your personal needs and aesthetic taste.

Year-round use

When you look to purchase a summerhouse you will be faced with two options: insulated or uninsulated? The beauty of an insulated summerhouse is that it goes from blissful summer retreat to cosy winter hideaway, meaning you will be getting more value for your money in terms of usage throughout the year. The insulation keeps the internal temperature more stable on hot summer days and icy winter ones making it more comfortable to spend time in. Our insulated summerhouses also come with an electric pack option so you can easily add a heater in the winter months with the insulation ensuring it is energy efficient.

Extend your living space

Adding an insulated summerhouse to your garden is like gaining an extra room in your house without the formalities of planning permission, the stress of an extension and the heavy price tag that comes with it. This is particularly true if the room you would like to add is going to provide additional living space which is for a home gym or games room for example. We pride ourselves on giving our customers a stress-free experience from start to finish. All of our insulated summer houses are built to order at our Norfolk workshop and the delivery and installation of your building is included in the price meaning you won’t have to lift a finger.

Multi-purpose

An insulated summer house has many different uses owing to the fact that the insulation will keep the internal temperature more consistent. It could be a place to relax in, use as storage space, entertain friends in, set up as your home office, turn into a gym, or even your new hobby room. Your insulated summer house will always be an asset to you no matter what you decide to use it for.

Our summerhouse features & considerations

Lined & Insulated

Each of our summerhouse styles comes with the option of being lined & insulated. If you choose to insulate your new summer house then it will also have an internal lining. We use the lining to create a cavity between the external cladding and internal tongue and groove wall that can be filled with rockwool insulation. The roof and flooring is insulated with special rigid foam boards which again fit into a cavity between the inside lining and ply layer. Not only does the lining help with insulation but it also gives your summerhouse a more finished look, which you can choose to leave natural or have painted for a more homely feel.

Double Glazing & Opening Windows

For any building to be classed as fully insulated it will need to include double glazed windows. A considerable amount of heat can be lost or gained through single-glazed windows, which is why we would strongly recommend our double glazing option if you’re also choosing a lined & insulated building. Although the reason we use timber to make our garden buildings over any other material is for its breathable qualities, there is still a risk of over insulating your building which can lead to problems with mould. As part of our windows and doors stage, we also offer opening windows which will ensure your building has adequate air circulation without having to leave the door wide open when you’re using it.

Internal Finishes

For many people, their insulated summerhouse is an extension of their home and with this in mind like the internal finishes to reflect that. All of our insulated summerhouses come with eight Farrow & Ball interior colour options for you to choose from, we are also able to use any other colour in the Farrow & Ball range at extra cost. Another important interior feature that can really make a difference to the overall finish is the flooring. We offer two types of flooring: lacquered and engineered. The lacquered flooring is our high quality Scandinavian Redwood Pine with a lacquer applied to give it protection and a nice sheen. Alternatively, you can opt for one of four natural shades of engineered flooring which takes the personalisation to the next level.

Partitions

One of the great things about all of our timber garden buildings as they can include internal partitions. This enables you to divide the space for it to potentially have multiple purposes. For example, some people choose to add a partition and second door to the rear of their summerhouse so it can be used as storage so as not to clutter up the space you want to relax in. Other examples include adding partitions to create a small toilet area, although we are unable to offer any plumbing services with our building.

Maintenance is minimal. It’s recommended that the roof is kept clean from any build up of leaves, debris, and moss especially over the winter months. The same applies to the windows, they should be cleaned regularly to prevent any decaying debris eating away at the paint and woodwork. Always check for any damage to the roof or cladding which could potentially let damp in. It’s also good practice to open the windows every now and then to ensure there is sufficient ventilation inside which will also help to prevent any mould developing.
