Garden Room in Arbury, Cambridgeshire
To make this building suitable for use by the care home’s residents, a few alterations were made to the design of the building: the first was to make the veranda smaller than usual at 1.2m instead of 1.8m to give more internal space, and the second alteration was to remove the picket fence around the veranda. A lot of the residents in the care home use wheelchairs, so by removing the picket fence, it will offer extra entrance and exit points from the veranda. After the installation of the building, the care home has fitted ramps around the veranda to give the residents access.
The internal space of the Garden Room is 3.6 x 6.6m, giving plenty of room to set up a sensory room that the residents will be able to enjoy for years to come.
Externally, the features of this Pavilion include grey slate effect tiles on the roof, weatherboard cladding for a rustic finish, Georgian windows and a two-tone paint finish. The customer chose Pebble for the walls, and Ivory for the doors and windows, two colours from our Exterior paint range. White guttering and external lights finish off the outside.

Inside the Garden Room, there is full insulation and solid pine matchboard lining that has been painted in Farrow & Ball’s Slipper Satin on the walls to achieve a light, bright finish. The customer also chose engineered flooring in the colour, Copenhagen, which is a light grey colour to enhance the bright, clean feel further.
Other features include an electric pack with a heater, double glazed windows, all of which can also be opened, and the doors and windows have been finished with polished brass furniture.
Our Garden Rooms are year-round use buildings, so the care home residents will be able to enjoy their new sensory room no matter what time of year it is.
